Hi,

Any and all input would be great on deciding on the Versa as my next phone.

I currently have a Blackberry Pearl on Alltel with a data plan, but my girlfriend has convinced me to do a family plan on Verizon and give up the Blackberry.  This means I will be going back to a normal phone.  It saddens me a bit as my blackberry is great, from the google apps to slacker radio to its compatibility with Microsoft Outlook and great messaging features.

I use my Blackberry religiously for syncing my Outlook Contacts and calendar appointments.  One feature I hope that can be accomplished with the use of BITpim.  My concern is I have addresses for all the Outlook Contacts, will the Versa recognize that through BITpim?  I have read that the Versa only handles 5 numbers and 2 email addresses per contact.  Is this true?

Giving up the internet and constant emails won't be hard, or google apps and slacker radio, but he Outlook syncing could be.  Could anyone please provide some feedback as to the Versa's contacts' capabilities and calendar appointments too?

I have read through the forums and really think this is great that this site is here.  If the Versa can handle the addresses of the Outlook Contacts, i'm sold and hope to contribute to this site.

Thanks!

It sounds like you want the Blackberry Storm and not the Versa.   Outlook Contacts will not sync with the versa.  Not even through BITpim.  You would have to manually enter the contacts in the phone or enter them in BITpim and transfer to the phone.  It is correct that the Versa has 5 phone number fields (Mobile 1 & 2, Home, Work, and Fax) and 2 email addresses.

The calendar appointments are OK, but with someone who has been working with Outlooks calendar, you will be sorely disappointed.  If you are making the switch to Verizon, it sounds like you would need a smart phone which they do have a few of.  If you want a touchscreen, you want the Blackberry Storm.

Hey thanks.  I appreciate it.  I would really like to go to a smartphone but with attaching a data plan to the voice plans, it gets a bit expensive for two lines, and we have talked about keeping the plan cost under control and really looking at the features that are most important.

I've looked at the Centro and am not a fan of Palm's interface.  Nor am I keen on the HTC Touch.  I think its just part of the process of giving up the Blackberry.  I am looking at the Versa right now because of LG's reputation and it seems to be a phone that will make it through the 2 year contract.

It would be nice if Verison, LG, Motorola, and all those other guys out there would realize there is a niche for people that want a multimedia phone with some smart phone capabilities with out having to attach a complete data/email/smartphone  plan.

But the more and more I look at, and read about the Versa, the more I am drawn to it.  I do appreciate your guys' quick replies.

Thanks again, and I look forward to being a part of the group here.

At my age I have quite a bit of "life" experience.  Do NOT let anybody influence you to give up your Blackberry if you don't want to.  The "family" thing represents security to her in that you will be together on the plan.  If you must get a family plan you don't have to give up your current  phone.  Just my 2 cents worth.

from what i understand verizon has a blackberry pearl too you dont need to give up the phone your used to the only downside being you need the blackberry plan and it is the same as you have now.
also why drop alltel they have family plans too you can add her for 10 a month or 20 a month if your not in a higher price bracket already... i have the versa and if you have a smartphone like the pearl already you are going to be disappointed it does have alot of nifty features but it isnt a smart phone about the only thing they share in common is a html browser and email. there is another smart phone you can look at besides the centro and htc touch. The samsung i760 it doesn't need a data plan has wifi and runs winmo so it has outlook mobile and apps. Only problem will be finding a store with one in stock they are e.o.l. so you may have to specifically ask for one or get one off ebay...

Thanks for the input everyone.  I am in a higher price bracket right now with Alltel, mainly for the minutes and text messaging.  To add a line to it right now would be 20 bucks.  Thats too much for the limited features.  Plus the Alltel reps here are not helpful anymore since they all know they are getting booted in the next month.

The past 2 weeks I've been looking at what I do and don't use on the blackberry and I've narrowed it down to items that are covered on the Versa.  Most stuff I use on the blackberry is stuff that makes me lazy and not research or look things up before I leave the house or office.  Isn't Google wonderful?  haha.  Plus in the long run it will save some money on plan costs.

Any idea of other modules that will be coming out?  A wi-fi attachment would be great.

As far as what has been announced qwerty keyboard and the game pad are the only 2 available atm
a stereo speaker attachment was to be added too. I doubt a wifi equipped keyboard will be released as it is counter productive to verizon's bottom line... What i would like though is a keyboard that either supports a extended life battery or has an extra battery in it as well as a stronger vibrate motor current one seems a little weak...

You should look at a samsung i760 it doesn't require a data plan and has wifi and is it a windows mobile so it actually has outlook on it.
