unknown device

hi guys, i have a question about my LG Versa when i connect it via usb Windows xp reply's with usb device not recognized by xp there is a malfunction when i uninstall drivers it will say "this device has not passed windows test logo screen" click "continue" to install or click "cancel" to abort installation if i unplug the battery and connect the usb cable without the battery plugged in will that trigger the phone to download the lge cdma usb modem drivers after uninstalling unknown device in device manager should i plug the usb cable in the back of my pc? it won't even see the 2 gig memory card i bought
