Can the LG-Versa handle the MicroSDHC or only the MicroSD?  Which one should I buy?  Also, is it possible to take non-music files off the phone without one of the memory cards?

The Versa can handle both MicroSD & MicroSDHC up to 16GB.
Regarding non-music files, most pictures, some videos and some sound files can be sent via bluetooth and picture messaging.  As a general rule, the larger files should be transferred via bluetooth.

Kevin, you are correct about the versa i have 4 gb microsd card in it works just fine
