I thought there is automatic updates to get the newer software?

Their is an option to check for updates on the Versa, but this option has been on other phones and has not been used.

How do you get software updates then?

I would say that for at least the 1st update you will have to take the phone to the store. Thou thats what I think. Some people think that the update feature on the versa will be put to use for the first time.

Yes, it should.
All branch stores are supposed to flash every phone in their store with firmware updates and any new devices they receive should come with the newest version.

Does anyone know if this is true for stock sold online (or purchased by calling in for that matter)?  (e.g., That any phones purchased going foward should arrive to its new owner already loaded with the newest software version?)

Thanks for any help you can give!

Correct, especially online/phone orders.
All phones should have the latest version, or they will be updated for you.
