Hi, before I get flamed for asking... I want you to know I am researching the differences both online and at the Verizon stores... not just blindly posting a dumb question...this is part of my research.

Reasons I like the Versa:
- Newer (not important I know)
- Java
- Physical keyboard

Reasons I like the Dare:
- Slightly larger screen
- 3.5mm headphone jack

If I am only going to use a phone for occasional internet, occasional texting, MP3s and of course as a phone...  any reasons I would want one over the other ?
Browsing? Sound quality of phone? Touch response?

I never liked a non-flip phone because only they can reach my ear and mouth at same time.  So its only because of the features that I am going this route.  The Krave (flip phone) while pretty, seems to be a huge disappointment to most that own it.  (reviews on Verizon website are not good).

I realize this is a Versa forum, but I'm hoping some of you owned a Dare at one time, or could give me any sort of advice.

Thank you very much.

I went through 4 services (att,verizon,t-mobile,alltel) and 1-3 phones on each service.  I ened up with T-Mobile and have been disappointed in the coverage and dropped calls.  I went with t-mobile because of the hotspot@home service.  I had many dropped calls when going through my home router.  so now after paying the 200 dollar t-mobile cancellation charges I am with Verizon.  I tried the Krave, Glyde (new resistive screen version) and ended up with the Versa.  I also had tried a Dare at the end of last summer.  I do not like the software keyboards.  I REALLY like the Versa keyboard.  The jack is no big deal as you can get the adapater with the microphone built-in and use any headset you desire.  The bluetooth also works very well.  The screen is nice.  The web browser is a bit weak.  There are a lot of cool features with the Versa.  There is an issue with lockups.  I have experienced 2 lockups in a week and had to remove the battery and put it back in to get it going again.  I am sure that there will be some fixes coming soon with a firmware upgrade.  The phone is ugly but I really like the case built-in.  When the case is closed the phone will lock automatically.  I think this is a programmable feature.  I left it on the default to lock.  The VCast video works great for me.  To bad 24 is not available on it from Fox.

The keyboard is really nice.  There is lots of space and I almost never hit the wrong key.  This is huge!  The camera is typical but does have a cool panoramic mode.  You can make shortcuts on the alternative screen for web shortcuts and another screen for feature shortcuts such as "My Music"  or Tip Calculator

I think you would be really happy with the Versa as I am.

The Virtual touchpad is a bit larger for the Dare. In turn a lil easier to use. If you are basically one of the few people who buy there phones to talk on them and not the 10000 other reasons people either love or hate a phone then it seems you just need to decide if you want all touchscreen, or the option to use a literal keypad. Everything else is just attractive fluff.

imho

Well, Id go to the verizon website and read the user reviews of both phones. For the Dare 1 out 5 reviews is negative but the versa  has only 3 bad reviews out of 68 and one of them the reviewer said it doesnt work outside. LOL ok

lol @ "doesnt work outside".

Thank you all for not ripping on me over the "Java" feature.. I in fact meant "Flash" but didnt bother correcting it after i sent.

Thanks for the advice, Im sure that question was asked a million times too many.  I researched here while awaiting replies and of course was already researching elsewhere.
Ended up with the Versa.

Seems great (so far) except for the internet not working.  Getting a "dial *611" error so far.

Will deal with it tomorrow.

Anyway... thanks again
