Phone call timer still running, caller can hear me, I can't hear them.

I just changed over to Verizon and my wife and I both got versa's about a month and a half ago.  The last two days mine has started acting up.  I will first say that my location and her location on these calls have been places where we always have good reception.  Every time we talked last night on the phone for instance my phone would go silent within about 30 sec's to 3 minutes of talking, she could still hear me though and both our call timers were still running.  This probably happened from 15 to 20 times last night (and a few times the day before that).  Any idea what this is??  The phone has been baby'ed (not dropped, not wet), does verizon usually work with you on this kind of thing if it keeps up??
